Note: This data was released by the City of Baltimore, and has not been verified by The Baltimore Sun. City officials say pay that exceeds base salary is almost always attributable to overtime, but could also be from promotions, stipends and shift differentials. Some overtime pay, such as compensation for police officers working at professional sporting events, is reimbursed by private entities and thus not paid with public funds. The database also includes some temporary or part-time workers who were kept on the city payroll in years when they did not work, and their salaries are shown as $0. Base-salary figures do not always represent actual salary paid, which can be higher or lower. Because of this, and because of some recordkeeping discrepancies and manual accounting adjustments in the raw data provided by the City of Baltimore, search totals do not always balance.
